Every incredible journey through pregnancy is unique; unique from everyone else, unique to you. Yogita has been created to carry a woman, her baby and her birth partner, through pregnancy and beyond into labour, birth and postnatal recovery.

Practicing Yoga, even in modest measures, during your pregnancy will bring about renewed vitality, improved concentration and focus, the ability to create peace of mind and balance within and allow you time to connect with your baby. Practicing yoga during pregnancy may also help you have a quicker postnatal recovery.

The Pregnancy Yoga Timetable:

Relax...have a cup of tea on us

''At Yogita London we believe that you already have enough to carry; yourself and baby. Therefore you do not need to bring any equipment to your classes, everything that you need will be provided. This includes a bottle of water on arrival at your class.''

Jen de Vera

Testimonial by Chiara Fontana, a Yogita London Pregnancy Yoga Client

''I attended a pregnancy yoga course taught by Jen at Yogita in Islington. Jen’s pregnancy yoga class is a wonderful and very special experience. I have really enjoyed her classes- just what I needed to relax and re-centre after a busy day and a long commute to and from work! After each of Jen’s classes, I felt much more relaxed, centred, with a better posture and more energy.

Jen’s professional but also friendly and welcoming approach makes the atmosphere of the class positive and enjoyable.

Mums-to-be attending her classes feel comfortable and at ease. During her lessons, Jen teaches a series of sequences especially adapted for pregnancy, with the aim to tone, relax, strengthen and prepare the body towards labour, teaching mums-to-be to appreciate their own body both for its capabilities and limitations during pregnancy.

Jen’s classes always end with a wonderfully relaxing ‘shavasana’ – relaxation and meditation – where she encourages mums-to-be to connect with their baby while consolidating the practice of the lesson. Jen’s support doesn’t stop here: during the course, Jen provides handy tips and advice for coping with the different stages of pregnancy and shares different relaxation techniques that can be practised at home and also used during labour. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to attend Jen’s classes, she is a very inspiring teacher!

Namaste! Chiara''

We look forward to welcoming you to class! You will also find a selection of complimentary herbal teas to enjoy on the sofas before class if you arrive early, and also after class. Perfect for winding down from your commute before class or as a way of relaxing a little further following class. It's also a great way to get to know the other mums to be! As always, there'll also be a bottle of water waiting for you in class.

Understanding your new body

A series of sequences especially adapted for pregnancy, will help tone, relax, strengthen and prepare your body as you learn it's capabilities and limitations during pregnancy. You will be able to stretch, to move and to feel active in a carefully controlled environment in which you and your baby's well being are the primary focus.

Gentle but effective

We start each session with breathing and visualitsation exercises in order to free our mind of all the day to day tensions and cares that we carry around. Clearing your mind will allow for a deeper immersion in the yoga techniques that will follow and impart greater benefits for you and your baby. You will be able to apply many of these breathing and visualisation techniques in your every day lives to help you return to center, well beyond childbirth.

Next we will warm up the body through gentle stretching in preparation for the main practice which will include floor work, standing and balancing postures. The main practice helps with body conditioning, progressively building physical stamina, opening up your body, protecting and strengthening your spine, massaging and calming baby through your movements.

You will learn how to use some of these movements to help baby descend during labour as well as how to use breathing techniques to help you focus through contractions and birthing baby. Each session ends with the all important relaxation time.

Throughout the course we will provide handy tips and advice for coping with the different stages of pregnancy, birth, postnatal recovery and beyond. We will also incorporate partner work, restorative yoga for pregnancy and birthing postures. As an additional support occasionally we will provide handouts covering a variety of useful topics relating to your pregnancy.

Inclusive of your Birth Partner

At Yogita London we appreciate and understand the role of the Birth Partner and during our classes we will explain to you how we will get them more involved in your pregnancy which will allow not only for a more accessible home practice for yourself, it will also better equip your Birth Partner in preparation for your labour, birth and beyond.

Safe and sure
Yogita encourages you to listen to your body and only do what you feel is right for you. We will ask you to complete a medical questionnaire before you start your pregnancy class with us. This is to ensure we are aware of any medical conditions which could be adversely affected or aggravated by some yoga postures so we can offer alternative postures. In some instances we may need to speak with you further regarding your condition to ensure your safety and well being while in our care.

All personal, and medical, information about you will be kept strictly confidential and no part of it will be disclosed or discussed with any individual or organisation.

Our support doesn't end at the door...

Our support and commitment does not end at the classroom or studio door. We aim to support our Clients following their classes and workshops on a number of issues relating to: their journey through pregnancy; the transition to becoming a parent; postnatal health and recovery issues; baby development issues and common baby ailments.
